On January 1st 2005, Akabori, Azuma, and Sakai merged with Isesaki.
Isesaki is 139.33 km2 which accounts for 2.2% of Gunma. It has a length of 13 kilometers and a width of 18 kilometers. It is south of Mt.Akagi, and although the northern part is mountainous, most of Isesaki is a plain. In the south there is the Tone River, and the Hirose and the Kasu Rivers which become the Tone River.
The average temperature in Isesaki is 15.3 degrees Celsius and the annual rainfall is 1,200 millimeters. It is comparatively warm and has the least rainfall and the longest days in Gunma. In winter, it has "JOSHU NO KARAKKAZE" so called "Gale winds of Gunma".
Historically Kofun, such as "the Chausuyama Kofun", are symbolic of the political power of a clan. Many similar Kofun are commonly found in Gunma.
The volcanic ash combined with well-drained land make the area well suited for growing mulberry trees Isesaki is famous for silk farming and well-known for being a source of "Futo-ori cloth" during the Edo era By the end of the Meiji era, the popularity of "Futo-ori cloth" had spread throughout Japan Isesaki soon developed into a textile town. These days, it is a major industrial city due to its proximity to the Kita-Kanto expressway and other major roads. Its convenient location made it an ideal choice for manufacturing plants and shopping malls.
Isesaki has its population of over 200,000. It is the fourth largest city in Gunma, after Takasaki, Maebashi and Ota. It also has the fourth largest household population of over 80,000 households. The population and the number of households continue growing and expanding the city.

Handmade bamboo branches are decorated on Hon-machi St. The festival will be filled with many bustling food stands and shops.

◆境ふるさとまつり　Sakai Furusato Festival

パレード、山車・屋台巡行、みこし、獅子舞・太鼓など見どころ満載。

◆いせさきまつり 　Isesaki Festival

伊勢崎市を代表する夏祭り。山車・みこしの競演や郷土芸能、パレード、大抽選会など様々なイベントが目白押し。また、１，４００人を超える人々がいっせいに踊る「ダンピアいせさき」や、多くの担ぎ手が参加する「いせさき市民百人みこし」がまつりを盛り上げる。

◆千本木神社秋季大祭　Senbongi Shrines Fall Festival

頭に飾られた和紙で作った鳥総（とぶさ）が踊るたびに散らばるが、それを拾って玄関に飾ると魔除けになると言われる。

Usually Lion Head dance is dedicated in Japan, but "Ryutomai (Dragon Head Dance)"is dedicated to Senbongi Shrine. "Tobusa" is made from Japanese paper (Wa-shi). When "Tobusa" dances, the paper falls on the ground. If you pick it and decorate on your house door, they will protect you from diseases and disasters.

The "Daruma Doll Festival" which started in 1887 is the third major festival of the year in Gunma. The street will be covered with many Daruma shops. The festival lasts until late at night.

◆上州焼き饅祭　Joshu Yaki Manjyu Festival

いせさき初市に合わせて行われる新春恒例行事。直径55cmの大串まんじゅうや長さ20ｍ以上の長串まんじゅうなどが焼かれ、参加者に振る舞われる。

This annual event is taken place at the same time as the Isesaki First Bazaar. A set of (4 in a skewer) big buns 55 centimeters in diameter and many ordinary-sized buns threaded with a skewer 20 meters in length are toasted and spreaded with sweet miso sause.
Big ones are served to the visitors. The strung-for-20-meters ones are eaten by the participants.

◆豊武神社節分祭　Toyotake Shrine Festival

豊武神社で長く受け継がれている節分祭。かみしも姿の年男が町内を練り歩いた後、神社で威勢よく豆まきを行い、地域の厄払いをする伝統行事。

This festival passes from long time ago. It began when an old man marched throughout the town and threw beans to drive out evil spirits. Since then, the festival has always been performed at the Toyotake Shrine.
