川場村の総面積は85.29km²うち全体の83％が山林で占められています。一級河川の「薄根川」「桜川」「溝又川」「田沢川」など四つの清流が流れる地に集落が開けたのが始まりとされ、川の多いところから地名にもなったといわれています。
　古い歴史と文化に支えられた川場村は、明治22年市制町村制の施行に伴い現在の村が誕生しました。
　気候は冷涼で、年平均気温は11.0度、冬は平均気温6.6度まで下がる降雪地帯で、山岳地帯の積雪量は多いときで２～３ｍに達します。
　関越自動車道や上越新幹線により首都圏からの交通が飛躍的に改善され、人的・物的交流が増加し、経済活動も活発化しております。このようなことから「農業の振興」と「田園休暇村づくり」の推進による豊かな環境の村づくりを目指しています。

83% or 85.29 km2 of Kawaba Village is composed of mountains and forests. It is said that the village developed by the riverside of 4 A-class rivers,: 'Usune river', 'Sakura river', 'Mizomata river', and 'Tazawa river.' This is the origin of this village and the name 'Kawaba' came from being surrounded by many rivers.
Built on the foundation of ancient history and culture, Kawaba Village as we know it today was established in Meiji 22 (1889).
The climate is cold with an average yearly temperature being 11.0C, and an average winter temperature of 6.6C. In winter, up to 2 or 3 meters of snowfall accumules in the mountainous areas.
When the Kanetsu Expressw and Joetsu Shinkansen (bullet train) opened, transportation was dramatically improved, fostering economic growth through the exchange of products and services Projects promoting agriculture and rural village tourism have been planned.

　４月も半ばを過ぎたころ、暖かい風に身を翻す鯉のぼりとともに春はやってきます。武尊山の雪解けが始まると、山里は春を待ちわびていたかのように木々の節々に萌葱色の新芽が吹き出し、自然の限りないエネルギーを感じさせます。豊富な清流は川場村のブランド米「雪ほたか」や２軒の酒蔵にも恵みを与え、村内一円に植えられた稲穂の新緑は、村外からの旅人に「美しい田園風景」として感動を与えています。

After mid April, spring comes to Kawaba Village in the form of carp streamers which flap in the warm wind. When snow on Mt. Hotaka starts to melt, trees and other plant life around the mountains begin to push out new shoots as if they have been waiting for spring, This makes people feel the limitless energy of nature. An abundant stream pure water nourishes the famous Kawaba brand rice, 'Yukihotaka' and Kawaba's two breweries. Young green rice ears planted all over the village impress visitors with Kawaba's 'beautiful rural landscape'.

　田園プラザは川場村の魅力を一堂に集めた総合複合施設。地ビールやヨーグルト・ハム・ソーセージなど施設内の工場で手作りした製品が人気で、ファーマーズマーケットには地場産の野菜やフルーツも揃い固定客もたくさんいます。
　また、関東「道の駅」連絡会が国土交通省関東地方整備局管内の125の道の駅を対象に実施したアンケートで５年連続「好きな道の駅」第１位に選出されました。日頃のご愛顧の感謝を込めて春と秋にはイベントが開催されます。

Michi no Eki Kawaba Den-en Plaza is a tourist complex, where all the attractions of Kawaba Village are displayed. Handmade products, such as locally brewed beer, drinkable yogurt, and ham and sausage are popular with tourists. Some visitors often come to buy local vegetables and fruits at the farmers' market.
For the past 5 years, the Den-en Plaza has consecutively been 1st in the 'My Favorite Michi no Eki' survey which is organized by the Kanto Michi no Eki Network.'s 125 Michi no Eki, a subdivision of the Kanto Region Development Bureau, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The events take place in spring and autumn and is highly esteemed by visitors.

　飛び散る汗と渦巻く熱気。いくつもの御輿がもみあう様はまさに圧巻、まつりのクライマックスです。そして、夏の夜空を彩る光と音の祭典花火大会でフィナーレとなります。川場まつりは、伝統の祭りや郷土芸能など、様々な行事を一堂に集めて行う村を挙げてのビックイベント。７月の第４日曜日、この日は村は祭り一色となります。

Splashing sweat and swirling excitement! The jostle of many portable shrines seems the perfect climax for a festival. The festival finishes with a firework display, a performance of light and sound that colors the summer night sky. Kawaba Festival is a big event which includes traditional festiva activities, folk entertainments and other local events sponsored by the village. The 4th Sunday of July is the time to celebrate all over the village.

　村内には桐の木平林間キャンプ場があります。桐の木平林間キャンプ場は武尊山麓を流れる薄根川の源流部にあり、川遊びや渓流釣りが楽しめます。キャンプ場を拠点に村内の散策や温泉を楽しんでみてはいかがでしょう。

There is Camping Park Kirinokidaira in the village. It is located near the head of the Usune River, which you can enjoy fishing. There are some safe and comfortable cottages and cabins available for both new and experienced.

　川場村のシンボル武尊山は標高2,158ｍ。雄大な山容を持ち、頂上には日本武尊の銅像が建ち、古代より山岳信仰の霊山として知られ、日本百名山にも数えられています。
　多種多様な動植物が生息し、自然の宝庫ともいえるこの名峰には多くの登山者、ハイカーが訪れ、自然の魅力を満喫しています。
　登山コースは、体力や経験、年齢等に応じて選択できる３つのコースが整備されているので初心者でもチャレンジできます。
　９月下旬には武尊山を会場に群馬出身の世界的登山家の業績を讃え後世に伝えるための「山田昇記念杯登山競争大会」が開催されます。

The elevation at the top of Mt. Hotaka, the symbol of Kawaba Village, is 2158 meters. The mountain has a majestic shape and has been known as a holy mountain for mountain worship since ancient times. The statue of Yamato Takeru no Mikoto is built at the top. It is one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan.
This mountain can be said to be a treasure house of nature. Various animals and plants live on this mountain. Many mountaineers and hikers visit this mountain to enjoy viewing the wildlife.
The three routes to the top of the mountain are categorized to match the strength, experience and age of each hiker so even a beginners can try to climb.
Late in September, the 'Yamada Noboru Memorial Cup Mountain Climbing Competition' takes place at Mt. Hotaka. The competition was created to admire and honor Yamada Noboru's efforts as a world-famous mountaineer who came from Gunma.

　川場村には泉質・湯量ともに良質の６ヶ所の温泉が点在しています。ときには農作業に疲れた村人の体を癒し、またあるときは旅人の心と体を温めてくれます。いずれの温泉でも川のせせらぎや自然豊かな景観を楽しめます。めぐる季節とご一緒に湯楽三昧してみては如何でしょうか。

Six hot springs which provide large quantities of high-quality thermal water are scattered within Kawaba Village. Sometimes, the springs heal a local villager who is tired from a day's worth of hard farmwork and sometimes the springs warm the heart and body of a tourist. The sound of a babbling brook and the peaceful view full of nature welcomes you at each hot spring. You should not miss enjoying these hot springs in every season.

　夏から秋にかけての川場はまさにフルーツ王国。ブルーベリー狩り・ぶどう狩り・りんご狩りなど、味覚と収穫の喜びを体験するため、県内外から訪れる家族連れで観光農園はにぎわいます。

Kawaba is a "Kingdom of Fruit" from summer to autumn. Picking blueberries, grapes and apples is available at tourist farms. Both residents of Gunma as well as visitors to Gunma come here to enjoy fruit picking. and tasting.

　川場スキー場はシルキースノーの最高の雪質と、1,000台収容の立体駐車場からゲレンデへ直行できる便利さが受けて人気を集めるスキー場です。スノーボードパークも整備され初級者から上級者まで楽しめるレイアウトになっています。ゲレンデは1,290ｍ～1,860ｍの標高にあり、晴れた日には遠く富士山や北アルプスも眺望できます。

The Kawaba ski area offers high quality snow and is located convenienly for visitors. The car park can hold 1000 vehicles and visitors can go directly from the car park to the ski ground. There is a snowboard park with courses for all levels of snowboarders. The ski ground is at an elevation of 1290-1860 meters. On sunny days, Mt. Fuji and the North Japan Alps appear in the distance.

　金甲稲荷神社の祭日に奉納されるまつりで、まだ雪の残る２月１１日に行われます。女装した若者が歌と踊りを披露しながら門前地区内の家々を廻り、家内安全と養蚕の豊作を祈願するユニークなもので、全国的にも知られています。

Harugoma Festival takes place on February 11, the celebration day of Konkoinari Shrine. Young men in women’s clothing visit homes in the area and sing and dance in front of the gate.. They pray for the well-being of these homes and the prosperity of silk-farming.. Since this festival is unique, it is well-known i all over the country.
