群馬県の最北端に位置するみなかみ町は人口２万３千人、面積７８１ｋ㎡。東京都から約１５０㎞と近く、東京都２千９００万人の水瓶である利根川の源流の町です。
　谷川岳を代表とし国内第一級の山岳地や、風がそよぎ清らかな水が流れ蛍が舞う美しい田園、町内各地湧き出る豊富な温泉などの雄大な大自然に抱かれた町です。
　また、そんな地域に育まれた伝統文化を体験できる観光施設がたくさんある観光の町でもあります。

Minakami Town is located in the northernmost part of Gunma Prefecture and has a population of about 23 thousand. It is only 150 km from Tokyo and is at the head of the Tone River, which supplies water to Tokyo's population of 29 million.
It is a town characterized by mountains such as Mt. Tanigawa (one of the highest peaks in Japan), pleasant breezes, clean rivers, beautiful rice paddies with hovering fireflies, hot springs throughout all parts of the town, and breathtaking natural scenery.
The town also has many facilities where visitors can experience the different forms of traditional culture that are distinctive to the area.

３月～５月
　雪解け水が流れ込み、利根川の流れを作り出します。
　激流を下るラフティングや、静かな湖をゆっくり進むカヌーなど水源の町　「みなかみ」ならではの水遊びを体験できます。
　また、麓で桜が咲き始めても春スキーの出来るスキー場もあります。

March to May
Snow melts and flows down the mountains and hills into tributaries that join to form the Tone River. Residents and visitors can enjoy water sports and similar activities that Minakami is known for, such as rafting through river rapids, or just relaxing while canoeing across a lake.
There are ski resorts where it is possible to ski in spring even as the cherry blossoms bloom at the foot of the mountains.

◆天神平　Tenjindaira

　春の訪れと共に水芭蕉やカタクリなどの高山植物が咲き始める天神平は、ロープウェーで気軽に行くことが出来ます。

A visit in spring coincides with the blooming of the arum lilies, Japanese violets, and other alpine plants at Tenjindaira, and you can take a relaxing ride up on the ropeway.

６月～８月
　 残雪が残る山あいなどを目にしながら、本格的な登山・トレッキング、自然歩道やブナ林を利用したハイキング・森林浴体験・高山植物を見る等も出来ます。水芭蕉など高山植物の宝庫である「尾瀬」へも, 予約制バス「尾瀬ライナー」なら９０分で行けます。
　 田園にはホタルが飛び交いホタル鑑賞を楽しむ人も多く訪れます。夏の間は避暑地として栄えます。催し物も多い「みなかみ祭り」の花火で晩夏　 が彩られます。

June to August
Summer is the perfect season for mountain climbing, trekking, nature walks, hiking through beech tree forests, gazing at alpine plants, or just relaxing in the woods. Oze National Park, famous for its rare plants, can be reached in just 90 minutes using the "Oze Liner" Bus Line (bus tickets must be reserved ahead of time).
Fireflies hovering over rice paddies are not an uncommon sight in summer, and many people come just to see them. Minakami is also popular as a summer resort where many people come to escape the heat of the Japanese summer. The Minakami Festival, with fireworks and many auxiliary events, is also a must see.

◆利根川　Tone river

　水源の町「みなかみ」ならではの水遊びを体験できます。
　激流を下るラフティングや静かな湖をゆっくり進むカヌーなど、楽しみ方は様々です。

With its name literally meaning "head waters", Minakami is the starting point of the river, and as such you can play in the waters there.
There are many ways to have fun including rafting on the strong currents, canoeing on the quiet lake, and so on.

９月～１１月
　９月になるとぶどう狩りやりんご狩りが出来,りんご狩りは１１月になっても至る所で出来ます。冬のイチゴ狩りから始まり一年中フルーツ狩りが楽しめる所でもあります。特にこの季節、昼夜の寒暖差が激しいこの地域 では、木々を黄色や紅に織りなす紅葉が一際美しく、山や渓谷の美しさは有名です。紅葉を眺めながらの温泉浴は、格別です。
　町内宿泊施設は、２００カ所以上ありそれぞれに風情があります。

September to November
Apple and grape picking, which are popular pastimes, start in September, and apple picking continues into November. In fact, starting with winter strawberry picking, Minakami is a place where you can enjoy picking fruits all year round. In autumn, the extreme temperature difference between night and day has the effect of making the changing of the autumn leaves into brilliant strokes of yellow and red, even more striking, Minakami is famous for its beautiful mountains and valleys during this season. A hot spring bath while gazing at the autumn leaves is an experience you won't forget.
There are more than 200 hotels and inns in Minakami Town, each with its own distinctive atmosphere.

◆照葉峡　Terihakyou

　俳人　水原秋桜子が命名した１１の滝が約５キロにわたって点在する照葉峡。　
　その名のとおり、秋には色づいた木々と大小の滝がすばらしい渓谷美を織りなします。

The 11 waterfalls named by the Haiku poet Mizuhara Shuoushi are dotted about the area known as Terihakyou. which literally means "bright leaf gorge". The colorful autumn trees and the waterfalls of various sizes create a beautiful gorge.

◆一ノ倉沢出合　Ichinokurasawadeai

　一ノ倉沢出合から仰ぐ険しい岩壁とふもとに広がる紅葉はとても雄大な景色です。紅葉シーズンの土日祝日はマイカー規制が行われ、約３キロの道のりをゆっくりトレッキングできます。

From the base of Ichinokurasawadeai to the rugged rock face above, the expanse of autumn trees reach as far as the eye can see. In the autumn season, cars are prohibited in the area, so you enjoy trekking on the 3km road.

１２月～２月
　１０カ所のスキー場を有する町は１２月から２月いっぱいまでは白一色に染まります。スキーやスノーボードは勿論そり遊び・雪合戦・かまくら作りなどの雪国ならではの遊びも楽しめます。最近はスノーシュートレッキングが人気で山岳ガイドなどが案内しますので初心者でも安心です。
　 スキー用品などはレンタルができるのでそろえる心配はありません。

December to February
There are more than 10 ski resorts in Minakami, and from December to the end of February the slopes are covered with snow. You can enjoy all sorts of winter activities, from skiing and snowboarding to sledding, making snow huts, or even having snowball fights. Snowshoe trekking has gained popularity recently. There are guides available, making it safe even for beginners.
Ski goods and other items can be rented, so there is no need to worry if you don't have equipment
